USA street directory/road maps/atlas? Hi, I'm from Australia and will be doing a road trip through California, Arizona and Nevada. In Australia we have Melways, which is a state wide street directory, showing all roads, highways etc. Am curious to know what the equivalent is in America, especially the 3 states I am visiting. I'm hoping i can purchase just the street directory/road map/road atlas etc instead of purchasing a GPS system as quite honestly they drive me bonkers. Thanks
Where can I find a good road trip planner (USA)? My friends and I are going to drive from Seattle to NYC and we could use some sort of software that can give us a good route. We are now using google maps but it is not made for this and doesnt work great.
I can read maps but do not understand them. HELP! Can you tell me where to find info on driving in the USA? I travel to the United States each summer but it is usually a mess. We rent a car and start our road trip. It would be helpful if I knew how to understand reading road maps. I would also like to know what the road signs means. Example there are numbers such as 875 and i-75. I was told that i-95 is like the one major road in the US but we get confused when we see all of the other numbers. However, I must say even with our limited knowledge we were able to drive from Florida to New Jersey. Also tell me how was it possible for us to drive through Savannah, North Carolina and all the other places and not go into Alabama and Tenneesee?
what's the difference between different Garmin map types? I bought a Garmin nuvi 275t GPS which includes maps of USA and Europe. I'm looking at the Garmin site and wondering what the difference is between the Navigator maps (e.g. North America...) and the city maps (e.g. CityXplorer, Bay Area) and the water maps and the topo maps. Does anyone know what the overlap, if any, is? Or a web page / site that explains it? It appears that I have the road maps for those two areas, the equivalent of the City Navigator North America and City Navigator Europe. Would I then have to buy the CityXplorer London if I'm going to London and want additional POI, transit maps, etc. or am I covered with City Navigator Europe? While I'm on a roll - do the topo and street maps interact nicely with each other? Or do I have to switch between the street maps and the topo maps depending on what I'm doing? TIA.
I'm from the USA, are the street signs along the roads of France easy to read? I'm from the USA, are the street signs along the roads of France easy to read? My husband and I are visiting Normandy Beaches over Memorial Day. We are driving from the airport CDG to Bayeux and then Bayeux to Versailles to drop car few days later. My map shows letters and numbers as road identification, are the street signs in France marked with example: A13, or N14? Are the signs easy to read? I heard they are town by town, not East-West like in US.
Is there any helpline number if I lost a way on any road of California, USA? The roads in USA are very tricky, 1 wrong exit & you are lost & there isnt always an option to find your way back. Normally, even if you carry a GPS/ call up a friend who can check google maps for you, these 2 are certainly not 100% reliable becoz a GPS may run out of battery & a friend might just not be able 2 callback (specially at nights when people switch off their cellphones & go off to sleep). Are there any helpline numbers if such a situation arises?
Road Trip in the USA...........................…? Hey--------- PLZ read all. Im going to drive a car for 40 days through Lots of the USA and Canada. What things could go wrong? What things went wrong on you on your road trip? Im English, so im not familiar with the american culture and such, ill be sleeping in my car most nights (I know its dangerous, but its cheap, ive made my mind up on that) I will have enough money, Altogether ive added up the miles and its going to be 7-8 thousand miles, (I can drive with my Brit passport btw, and the visa isn't a problem, for us Brits it lasts 90 days) ill be going by myself (I don't mind being alone) Oh and i will bring a Sat-Nav (no need for maps) and extra wheels and money! I am calling on you to ask you, what went wrong on your road trip? What was good and bad about it? Oh here is where i plan to go! Looks like a lot, but i CAN and WILL do it! I know how much it will cost and how far it is. http://s624.photobucket.com/albums/tt330/stan_020/?action=view¤t=USAplacestovisit-2.jpg I will buy a car, not rent one. (not old enough to rent one, ill be 19) Half the places (dots) are just scenery, i can go and see it for free. Im going august time, so Alaska wont be a problum, and i will be starting in New York, Ill only have enough cash on me to keep me going for a day or 2 and keep the rest in credit card. Ive asked this question a fuw times, i just want to know everything that could possibly go wrong, Thanks! Andy, half the things you mentioned are on the map. (Ive got google earth)

Or if I haven't stopped at those places tell me what I'm missing out on!
Isn´t USA the epicenter of the World Crisis? There are tensions all over the World, from Nepal to Lebanon, from Haiti to Chile, from Somalia to France... All Latam countries are on crisis, even Chile ( the best pupil of US policies, the example to follow )is rigth now full of violent strkes.Chavez is still in office and there is not an organized opposition against him. The road map of "Democracy" on Middle East and "Nation Building of Iraq " are a complete failure.Musrafah the " democratic General " will last as long as a fart in a fist.Crisis between Turkish Army and Turkish Goverment because the Kurds ... Crisis in Russia as the rebuilding of Capitalism looks not so easy.. And just USA ( with all its economic problems , the millons of foreclosures ahead !!! ) to fix all this...

United States Map - Help with famous landmarks (Urgent!)? Hi. For AP history, we have to fill in a blank map. I've been having some trouble with certain places though. United States Map - Urgent - Not difficult? Hi. For AP history, we have to fill in a blank map. I've been having some trouble with certain places though. Garmin Nuvi 200 map updates ? I recently purchased a Garmin Nuvi 200 (October 2007) and have already updated the firmware twice now. My question is how often does Garmin offer updated USA maps for free download to my unit per year ? I have yet to see an update and many of the area roads here have been changed in the past 2 years.

Road Trip Suggestions (NW to SW and back in USA)? I have always dreamed of this road trip: Seattle, along Oregon and California coasts to San Francisco, cut east to Las Vegas, north a little to Zion/Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park in Utah, then south to Grand Canyon (AZ), see some New Mexico cliff dwelling ruins, up through Colorado and to Salt Lake City, UT, then through Yellowstone/Grand Teton toward Sun Valley, ID, then Spokane, WA and back to Seattle. I have plugged it all in to Google maps, and gotten a nice little trip plan. However, I am not sure what I even want to see, or why I want to go to all these places. I love hiking & camping (would probably drive a small sedan and bring a tent - and plenty of motel money, too). I also love photography and the scenery of the Southwest. My question is: Have you been to these places? Better, have you road-tripped in this area? What did you like? What was off-the-beaten-path? What didn't you like? Any revisions you'd make? (I know, I know, it's all based on what I want to see - but just give me some suggestions to start with.) Also, any general road trip suggestions? (e.g. "You won't like driving as much as you think you will!") Thanks!
Good educational sights in the US, for a road trip? due to special circumstances, I will have a semester off (which is about three-four months). I want to take a road trip and see some of the USA. This'll happen in the spring, most likely. I set off from CT. I haven't made a definite plan yet, but I'm making a map, which at the moment is not in geological order. But, basically, it circles the country. I'm hoping to see the "tourist sights" in Washington, California, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, South Dakota, Illinois, North Carolina, Louisiana, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. Most of the sights I've selected, however, are parks and things like that. Are there any significant educational sites (such as museums) and colleges that I would be able to visit in this (rather clumsy) circle?
What has happened to the women of today.? Or at least from what I am seeing here in the USA. A lot of women / young ladies are getting tatoos and peircings that are just too over the top. A small tatoo --OK but more and more I am seeing whole arm and back tatoo drawings and it looks like hell. Same with the body peircings couple OK- but the tounge and under the bottom lip makes them look like the have finished eating and have not wiped their lips. And the side of the nose makes it look like a bugger is hanging on for dear life. Clean your self up people - men do not want to see that crap. You think we do but we don't. Mabye you do it to detract from an ugly face-- I do not know. And for you women with a pretty face--well-- you look like s hit. P.S. what are you going to look like when you reach 60- 70 ? Keep up the tatoos and your body will look like a road map that sombody balled up and strightened out. ---Real attractive..
Do the Democrats really want peace or war? DEMOCRATS START WORLD WAR III The Democratic controlled House in New Jersey USA has fired shots triggering WWIII. Please read the Valley Of Decision 2008, and then go to www.oceangrove.org for details… OCEAN GROVE'S BOARDWALK PAVILION VALLEY OF DECISION 2008 For centuries prophets and historians have convinced Mankind that the "Third World War" would be fought in The Middle East with great-invented weapons of gargantuan mass destruction. Except, current events are revealing that the "Third World War" will be spiritual in nature and fought simultaneously by all nations around the world not with weapons of incredible mass destruction, but with words of incredulous multitude. Based on the incredulous multitude of words written in the God inspired anti-gay rights manuscript, including the insurmountable foundation for a constitutional amendment assuring the complete and inevitable annihilation of gay rights altogether "The Manmade Second Coming Of Christ Battle For The Earth" this spiritual Third World War of Good Vs Evil, as highlighted in headlines of countless daily news stories around the world that are dominated by terrorism in the name of God and gay marriage, has already started. Unfortunately, although this spiritual war has been subsistent throughout the world for telltale centuries, it is only now being identified by Ebay's "The Manmade Second Coming Of Christ Battle For The Earth" as the Third World War. "The Manmade Second Coming Of Christ Battle For The Earth" exclusively defines gay rights as a physiological and psychological road map for a war of self-destruction, and the spiritual valley of Ocean Grove in which God may have specified that the decisive battle to end this war take place. Inadvertently, humanity is going forth now into that valley of decision commencing in the year of our Lord thousand and seven, the time and place that I believe God has at last designated for humanity to unite and make a concrete stand against the blatant ongoing assaults on mankind by the false prophecies of terrorism in the name of God and gay rights. Hence, it appears that the Ocean Grove Camp meeting Association's refusal to surrender the sacred Boardwalk Pavilion to the advancement of homosexuality may be God's decisive battle in this spiritual war of Good Vs. Evil. For under no circumstances whatsoever must the Camp meeting Association undermine God and religious faith by ever allowing any civil union to take place. Subsequently, as per "The Manmade Second Coming Of Christ Battle For The Earth" the tenacious fight anticipated to now arise in the matter of civil unions vs. the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association taking place in New Jersey, is about to trigger the chain reaction of common sense God has unleashed with the cataclysmic verbal power to extend from state to state and culminate at the 2008 U.S. Presidential Elections, where righteousness will ultimately be decided. As we go forth into the valley of decision "The Manmade Second Coming Of Christ Battle For The Earth" offers complete explanations as to how and why terrorists, homosexuals and other such anti-human facets of manmade manufacturing are actively attacking the phenomenon of Mankind's faith in God with extreme obsession for control of the Earth. It also explains why, based on America's current state of turmoil and despair, the Presidential Candidate demonstrating the closest relationship with God, the immediate answer to the Country's problems is going to be the next U.S. President. Which means that the candidate displaying the most courage and insight of action to recognize that this homosexual attack on the boardwalk pavilion in Ocean Grove is yet another example of religious organizations failing to unite and stand firm against the aberrations of gay rights. Divided and conquered. Religious organizations around the world are taking a horrific pounding from gay rights organizations. The candidate would question without fear of gay rights activists retaliation, why the numerous churches at least in the immediate area haven't united in support against this gay rights attempt at advancement. Ironically, homosexuality has thoroughly exposed religious organizations for what they may really be--competitive vehicles for cleverly manipulating the populace out of their hard earned money in the name of God. If one reads between the lines and listens to the subliminal message in their preaching, one can easily see the bottom line disguise of money magnets. If churches united and formed even a miniscule physicality of anti-gay alliance in defense of Mankind they could easily defeat God forsaken homosexuality. But instead religious organizations generally go about their business of concealing their worse fears at any cost: Uniting and having to face a myriad of potential dispositions such as: How and which church denominations would then get what share of parishioner's donations? Which denomination would get to direct the overall alliance? What location would become the official address for the alliance? Consequently, the non-union of religious organizations in this matter may mean that they are selling the Souls of civilization to the Devil, in a similar manner as the Catholic church knowingly and willfully for whatever reason ignored the selling of their parishioner's Souls to the Devil through ignorance of homosexual priests molestation of young boys for decades. Now the world must endure the disgrace, psychological devastation inflicted upon the innocent young victims and costs of millions of dollars in lawsuits for these ignominious aberrations. Upon Mankind's return to use of God given common sense pertaining to homosexuality, in due time the world may likewise find itself having to endure the same consequences as that of the priests' molestation in transcendent form of gay rights. What would happen if Israel-USA relations...? I think it would be major loss for the USA and probably the best for Israel. Let just consider the history of the USA-Israel relations. 1948-Most difficult period of the newborn state of Israel. USA declared neutrality. Only Russian weapons were coming to Israel, while 5 Arabs states attacked Israel were armed completely by British. Israel won this war without USA. 1967-The second most difficult period for Israel. USA did not support Israel either military or financially. Israel won this war. 1956 War- due to American Pressure Israel left Sinai. This open the road for the 1967 -6 days war. 1973-In this war Arabs allied with Russians and USA did not have a choice but to support Israel. Israel won the war, but due to the USA pressure had again to leave Sinai which is natural barrier between Israel and Egypt. Like after 1956 Sinai is dematerialized zone, but for how long? Two examples when Israel acted against her own national interests in order to satisfy USA interests: 1966- Arafat started the war in Jordan. Syrian moved tanks to Jordan's border to assist Arafat. USA asked Israel to move Israeli tanks to Syrian border. The result -Jordan is still called Jordan and not a Palestinian state. If it would be called today what it is in matter of fact-Palestinian State, we would not discuss Palestinians problem. 1991- Saddam Huseinsend missiles to israel. Foolowinf USA interest Israel did not bomabed out of existance Bagdad. If this would be done, not Azznejas or other Muslaim azzholes would be talking about "wipe out off the map:... @ mickel-if you don't feel to read my question, don't read. Unlike Muslim states we are free country. And in reference to Oil Money? Do you really think that Russians or Chinese will pay you market price?

Is there a website with printable maps of all- time USA rail trunk, branchline & interurban rail network? Part of the Peaking Oil solution set, (the elusive Petrocollapse Plan B) will include rehab & capacity expansion of existing & former US rail track footprint. This has statutory precedent in the July 10, 1838 US Act of Congress mandating All Railroads to be Federally designated "Post Roads". The reason for this act was to provide for Secure Federal Transport Corridors for transport & communications. Rail was for over 100 years the primary guarantor of SOCIETAL & COMMERCIAL COHESION in a growing America. Coincidental with this period was the USA period of being a lending, not a borrowing nation, an EXPORTER OF OIL! It is now crucially important to once again base our land transport system with significant rail capacity & reach to keep America mobile & provisioned thru the Oil Interregnum. Events in the Straits of Hormuz will adversely affect our ability to maintain our mobility & distribute necessities of life. "Second Dimension Surface Transport Logistics Platform"
Can i get traffic services on my tomtom go 720 in the USA??? Should I have bought a garmin? what model????? OK, i did all the research (so I thought) and bought a tomtom go 720 thinking "traffic ready" meant I could get traffic updates to my gps but when I went to turn on the services I was surprised to see it didnt have services in the USA. what gives? what am I doing wrong? TomTom Home only had traffic stuff for Europe I'm seriously consider returning this and going for a garmin. what garmin should I get. all i really care about is having a big screen, awesome maps with easy updates, smart ai, text-to-speech for speaking out road names, and auto recalculating routes if i make a wrong turn. i also like a "avoid toll roads" feature but thats not vital thanks in advance. ps. be specific on how i get traffic to work in the usa.... or let me know how YOU personally have traffic services in the USA with the tomtom go 720...... thanks again

Using GPS Units from USA abroad? I am living in South Korea right now and am an avid trail runner and road cyclist. Not a lot of maps here for me to use. Well at least I haven't found really good ones like National Geographic TOPO. So I was thinking of buying a GPS from home and having it sent over here. However, I don't know if it will work? I am unsure about mapping software for maps of places outside of the U.S. Can I buy a GPS from the states and use it in South Korea? If so, where could I find mapping software that would work with that unit? Also, woudl anyone know about purchasing a GPS in Korea for my purposes? Thanks, M
Do I need help?? OK..over the last 10 or 11 months I have been finding myself getting more and more "aroused" when I look at road maps, particularly this Rand McNally atlas I have of the USA. I can barely contain myself, I get so many "urges" while flipping through the book. There are certain states that excite me more than others, such as Kentucky. Do I need to see a shrink, or what??
Which of the following states, close to New York, has the best beaches to go swimming? I live in New York. Im willing to travel as far south as Virginia, as far north as Maine, as far East as Massachusetts, and as far West as Ohio and Kentucky. I have included a picture of the map of the United States. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1e/Map_of_USA_showing_state_names.png I was wondering which state has the best beaches to go swimming. Im looking for a road trip, with a destination where i can go swimming. Also, Is Long Beach Island in Jersey, a nice place, and would another state provide better beaches? Thank you very much.
Are UK Motorways filled with rude, distracted drivers? First of all, it will be interesting to see if this question gets yanked by Y!A! UK/Ireland. I have an awful track record with my impertinent questions being pulled by your sensitive review panel. Enough to give one a bit of a complex, I should say. I live in the states. Everyday, because of the vast distances and straight roads in the USA, I am amazed by the number of people, particularly women, but plenty of men, too, talking on the phone, driving with their knee while putting mascara on in the rear view mirror, or out-and-out smoking dope. Or fighting with their mate. Or engaging in sexual foreplay. People wonder why American police are so aggressive. If it's not personal grooming that's taking place (the average commute to work is more than 30 minutes) or matters of the heart taking place behind the wheel, I have actually seen people reading books and maps while driving. Then there are the road ragers. There are literally people that think that because you passed their 2009 Nissan Maxima in your little Kia, they have been "dissed" (disrespected) and react. Do you find such antics on the motorways of the UK? There was a time when Americans drove to relax. Now you practically need a Xanax a half hour before a trip to the grocer.
Holiday Insurance....???? Hey Im 2 years im going to go on a road trip to North America. I will be driving round about 8 thousand miles and will be over there for 50 days. I will be in the USA for most my travel and will be in Canada for about 5 days. I will visit Mexico for about 9 hours (a border city right next to the USA) Here is the map of where i will travel. http://s624.photobucket.com/albums/tt330/stan_020/?action=view¤t=USAplacestovisit-2.jpg I know its big and i know it will cost a lot, but im just wandering, could you give me a idea of how much my insurance for this holiday will cost. (I will only be drinking alcohol in Canada and Mexico if that makes a difference) I know this is a stupid question, but could you give a guess of how much it might cost? (oh and i will be traveling at summer time so Alaska and the norther Canadian provinces wont be anywhere near as dangerous, I will be 19 too) Thanks.
Ham Radio operator tracking? So about four years ago I was in a ham radio club that showed off this cool technology. I just now decide that I would like to know what it is. They had a computer on and you could see a map of the USA. When you zoomed in on a specific location you could see ham radio call signs either siting in one location or moving along roads. Now they explained that it had something to do with digital radios but not sure if they said anything to do with GPS. So you could follow a operator when his radio is on or in use. I would also like to know the uses of this technology. So if anybody knows what I'm talking about please let me know. Thanks
What would the people of the UK do if the US Military launched a full scale military invasion of their Island? The USA is the world's only Military Superpower,it is the 3rd most populated country behind China being the 1st and India being the 2nd most populated. If they were to invade the Island of the UK there would be little the people there could do.The US could surround the UK with it's aircraft carriers and land it's mighty soldiers and marines on all sides at the same time, their tanks could patrol the streets and Helicopter Gunships could patrol the skies, the UK wouldn't stand a chance.Look at a map the UK is a small island nation while the USA is without question a Giant of a nation.Once the UK has been occupied the people there will be finally have their own constitution,a Bill of rights, people there will finally become citizens and no longer be subjects,it will become a Democracy and no longer be a Monarchy, members of the royal family will have to find a real jobs, people will begin to drive on the right side of the road, what is your opinion?
Liberals and Conservatives, is this a fine example of how people enter the world of politics? One a young boy first learns politics, he starts off as a liberal, naive, uneducated and believes in fantasy ideal's like you can magically give healthcare to everyone without costs rising resulting in less people being able to get healthcare then beforehand. Then, the young boy goes to college and further tries to assert his liberal ideal's by citing Micheal Moore movies and using Rachel Maddow as his inspiration for college research papers. Then the young boy can go down two roads after college: Realize in the USA, he doesn't have to work to earn a living where he lives off the government and remains liberal Or, the young boy decides to get a job and become a hard worker earning a living, where he then becomes more experienced regarding the issues of taxes, economics, etc and becomes a conservative. Is this a great map on how people enter politics?
Can somebody do me a huge favour? I need someone to help me with my tomtom for my hemes. It was running fine until I did a hard reset and now it no longer works. I have an Device ID of AB3Z4 B5WPZ I own this legitimate copy of the program but tomtom wont help me getting my code. Do Canadians like this adventure drive (see below)? *This is a 7,600 kilometer drive from Key West, Florida, USA alllll the way to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. Key West, Florida, USA (Southernmost point of the Continental USA where the coldest temperature ever recorded since the year 1900 was +5 degrees Celsius above zero. [It's never in its history been cold enough for water to turn to ice.] Average winter temperature is about 25 degrees Celsius during the day. In summer, it never ever falls below 28 degrees Celsius in Key West from Late May until the end of October, and with lots of humidity. And the drive covers quite a bit of scenery. You'd go through Florida, the deep South, back country roads in the middle heartland USA Missouri, up the Mississippi through Minnesota and the lake country, up into Manitoba, across the Canadian Prairies - Sask Albert and BC. And then my favourite part: The Alaska highway as they call it, crosses from BC to the Yukon and back to BC and back to the Yukon 9 times in a row!!! before FINALLY reaching Whitehorse! Does this sound fun? Look at the link below. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Key+West&1s=FL&2c=Whitehorse&2s=YT Oh also between the Deep South and Missouri, you have a piece of the Appalachian mountain chain and the great smokey mountains.
I need a GPS I can use in the car and the field, waterproof, touchscreen, with Google Maps, Wifi, bluetooth...? The Droid by Verizon is what I am looking for but I do not want to pay expensive phone bills. I want to be able to have in the cache the satellite images from Google Maps and the information, pretty much like what you get in a computer. Then I want to navigate the roads like when you use a car GPS, but I am not going to do it just in USA, so I want the ability to upload maps (there are a lot of free stuff online). It need to be waterproof for my hiking trips. Ideas?
I'm from the USA, are the street signs along the roads of France easy to read? My husband and I are visiting Normandy Beaches over Memorial Day. We are driving from the airport CDG to Bayeux and then Bayeux to Versailles to drop car few days later. My map shows letters and numbers as road identification, are the street signs in France marked with example: A13, or N14? Are the signs easy to read? I heard they are town by town, not East-West like in US.

Posted By: shaista @ 03/01/2008 5:36:46 AM Comment: THE lunch hosted by Mr Asif Zardari for the newly elected members of the three leading parties on Feb 27 may well be remembered as a landmark in the long awaited transition to a democratic dispensation in Pakistan. The squalls that rocked the state on Oct 12, 1999 and in the form of the 17th amendment inflicted much damage. Then, the catastrophe of Nov 3 put all salvaging efforts beyond the capacity of any single party. The existing distortions in that historic but half-alive Constitution present a nightmare and demand the exercise of the highest form of political wisdom and legal expertise. The process of eliminating them by creating a new interface between politics and law has just begun. Pakistan???s present crisis is characterised by the bitter harvest of constitutional violations, growing imbalance between a power-hungry centre and the handicapped federating units, uncontrollable violence by ever-proliferating bands of extremists and, above all, by a rapidly rising table of sub-surface social anger at glaring inequalities of income and opportunity. A reasonably broad-based coalition government may provide a healing touch. There is no great virtue in a two-party system anymore as, for quite some time to come, regional aspirations will deepen particular identities of the constitutive elements of a diverse nation. The greatest achievement of the three top leaders present at Mr Zardari???s lunch is that they successfully persuaded their followers that these identities were perfectly compatible with an overarching national identity. Scratch the surface and lurking just beneath the protest against the humiliation of the higher judiciary and repeated violations of the Constitution is a palpable anguish of poverty and deprivation. Pakistan must eschew politics of vendetta but that does not mean that every crime against the state and society be brushed under the carpet. It needs a high-powered Commission on Truth, Justice and Reconciliation in the interest of historical accuracy and to build dykes for future security. We need to replace mercenary relations with relations based on mutual respect, community of interests and coordinated pursuit of common objectives within our respective national parameters. A strong and stable national coalition can be built around the present understanding between the PPP, PML-N and ANP. The US-led West should welcome it and not undermine it as it alone can make Pakistan???s battle against militant extremists effective The west should to withdraw their support from the one Musharaf who loathed by the people at maximum Posted By: shaista @ 03/01/2008 5:07:40 AM Comment: THE results of the election that took place on Feb 18 were astonishing. President Musharraf???s supporting party Pakistan Muslim League (Q) was wiped out and the ministers who were lucky enough to keep their seats are now at a safe distance from President Musharraf. The people at large want the president to go with no other choice. However, the US has been unduly interfering in our politics as its Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher has emphasised the need to continue President Musharraf???s rule. Pakistan has remained under military rule for more than half of its life, and the people no longer want any dictator to rule over them. As the PPP has secured the maximum number of seats, followed by the PML (N), the ties made between these parties also pose a serious challenge to the president???s stay any further in office. His rule for eight long years has brought many hardships to the nation and now he should quit The US slogan for democracy is and justice is just a slogan and in real and practicle not willing to be so for their own agenda From whome to expect the justice and democracy in the world the only power it self violate This is not the Musharaf pakistan but of 1,600/-Millions people and what they think of the rest This is not in the benifit of US to support the cruel one of the country who now the people think as Mechile G.Choaf The people and the young generation have very strong anti US sentiments due to their blind support of Dictator Musharaf This is not a good sign and this will increase with passage of time Posted By: eddiewhere @ 02/29/2008 2:12:44 AM Comment: IN THIS ENVIORNMENT OF ECONOMIC FEUDALISM WHERE THE MIDDLE CLASS MUST SUFFER IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE pROFITS OF MULTINATIONAL CORpORATIONS, WHO BENEFIT FROM CHEAp LABOR, THE AMERICAN DREAM HAS BEEN LOST. People in Pakistan voted in favor of Bhutto's party, not for Zardari, who was responsible for her twice ouster from the Premiership due to his shameful dirty roles of Mr.10%. Country's biggest grass root party preaching "Government of the People, by the People, for the People", which was founded on the basic principle of providing them respectable " Bread, Dress and Shelter", was created by Bhutto, hanged by a military dictator. Now, the party is orphaned in a bomb-blast death of his daughter during another military rule. Situation brings forth her rootless spouse, "Mr.Tenpercent Zardari", holding the People's mandate ( at ransom?), for endless exploits. Whatever the words mean, they cannot change the genes. The name "Zardari" literally means "Gold-Lord" and he lives his name literally. He was responsible for legislating and monopolizing gold import into Pakistan (through an Emirates based gold-tycoon of Pakistan origin) on a ridiculous 2% custom duty and made unfathomable ocean of fortune. If the US administration is ready," to let them have their rounds of discussions, still expecting the [Pakistani] Army to take the necessary military action, counting on an interesting transition", then the whole riddle is solved. The ongoing change in Pakistan is not a change of " act" in the drama being staged but, a "change of gear into a powerful all terrain drive", to move forward on the designed road-map, crossing effectively all rugged and bogging tracts en-route. Posted By: shaista @ 02/25/2008 5:19:05 AM Comment: The newly retired General Musharraf has displayed no intention of leaving office despite his king party losing even after plenty of evidence that he had planned to rig the elections. The caretaker government was anything but neutral and the Election Commission was suspect. But pressure from Washington compelled him to change his plans. Had he still engaged in massive rigging, not only would he have drawn Washington???s ire but also evoked ugly street protests. He knew that if the ???agitators??? caused the country to come to a standstill, the army would distance itself from him. Without their protection, he would not last a day in office. The habitual offender Musharaf this time fail for not carrying out a full pleadge crime of rigging due to international observer existing These people will never be convinced that it is time for the ex-general to go. To them, he is the embodiment of truth, the doer of all good things, and the prince of enlightened moderation without whom Pakistan would return to the Dark Ages. It is time for Musharraf, to wake up and realise that the game is over. Everything Musharraf stood for was repudiated on Feb 18. The electoral results have made it clear, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that the people do not wish to see Musharraf holding court on radio and television day in and day out. Aitzaz Ahsan spoke for millions when he said, ???Musharraf is the most hated & loathed man in Pakistan.??? During the last several months, poll after poll showed Musharraf???s popularity plummeting like a lead coin in a bottomless well. But he continued to reject the polls by saying that they only represented the views of a few thousand people and asserted vainly that he was vastly popular in the populous countryside. But even the King???s party was not taken in by the myths spun out by the monarch. It knew that once rigging was no longer an option, its fate was sealed. Why else would they seek to obtain the release of one of the key instigators of the Lal Masjid takeover, Abdul Aziz, just days prior to the vote? This was an obvious ploy designed to play on the religious sympathies of the people and to garner much needed votes. How else could one justify releasing a real and confirmed terrorist from jail while holding the nation???s eminent justices and barristers under house arrest? Musharraf had said not too long ago that he would step down when he saw that the people were no longer with him. He said he was continuing as president only because it was in the national interest. He would rather be playing golf or tennis, he noted, but the situation required him to sacrifice his personal interests. Well, the time has now come for him to do the nation a favour and quit as he is the only evil for this country. The only worry Americans have about the moment to keep up Musharraf in Presidency because Musharraf has amended the constitution in such a way no one else can do any thing without his consent and authority. This is worrisome for the new elected politicians. They know very much the hard fact that they have not been elected on merits, it is the hatred against Musharraf they have en-cashed. Because Musharraf have destroyed the true democrative spirit of the Pakistan???s Constitution by extremely autocratic and extra constitutional way before conducting the general election so that he could do the post election rigging. If those powers are not taken away from the presidency then the politicians will be nothing more than tools in his hands. If the politicians failed to restore highest court judges that will mean they are empty handed. Moreover they won???t be able to face their voters who have sent them Islamabad to clean up the mess and deliver good to them. Came with Vista, but I put WinXP on mine and found all the drivers on the internet. The construction is very sturdy hard plastic, none of the cheap flimsy stuff. The only way to free it up was to manualy power down. I unistalled Norton and installed AVG Free. NO more problems !!!! This is a very fast easy to use laptop with all the bells and whistles. Also very fast shipping,3 days. VERY HAPPY REVIEW BY: fraqtured Reviewed Aug 06, 2008 i bought the T1625 which is essentially the same specs as this, and wanted to input the impression i drew from the t1625. first off, great price, amazing features, and with a laptop cooler running $40 dollars for a middle of the road model, this laptop will run cool [the only complaint i have found on these was the heat] and you will have picked yourself up a top with features running in some cases nearly twice as much in price of a non refurbs, which will only be the refurbs of tomorrow. run all the updates through gateway, and do a clean reinstall and pertition reformat when you unpack, it, it will take a little bit of time, but will point you in a much faster direction. this laptop is highly recomended in my opinion. REVIEW BY: Reviewed Aug 05, 2008 This is my first purchase from TD.com, and I'm very satisfied with it. The Turion 64 dualcore processor and the 2GB of RAM make short work of everything I throw at it; I have Pidgin (my IM client), Firefox (with 3 tabs open, including YouTube), LimeWire, and uTorrent all running at the same time and there is absolutely no slowdown whatsoever. My only gripes are that it gets a little bit hot when charging, and the battery only lasts for an hour and a half; I can deal with heat and the battery can be easily upgraded. Your computer uses memory to run your Operating System, applications, peripherals, and to generate and display graphics on your computer monitor. Video memory is a form of RAM, and is either built into your motherboard; or on a graphics card (video card). Depending on the motherboard's configuration, and that of the video card (if separate or built-in to the motherboard), your computer may have to draw on its own RAM memory to meet its video memory needs. This creates shared memory, where your computer’s RAM will be shared between its own Processor (CPU) and its graphics chip. The result is that some systems will have shared memory, some will not. If you have 2GB (for example) of system memory installed, you may notice that your system reports significantly less memory. This is because your system is using shared memory for your video. What can you do about this? You can actually configure this shared memory through your computer’s BIOS settings. However, this is a setting best left alone, since it is typically optimized for display performance, and making changes may impact display resolutions, and other video capabilities. The simplest solution is usually to either: increase your system memory; or to upgrade the video hardware. By upgrading to a new video card with built-in video memory, then turning off shared memory, you will free your system to use it's maximum potential memory, and provide your system with much more robust video features. Click Here for our Memory Options » Click Here for the latest Video Cards » How Much Memory Do You Really Have? When you look at the specifications for a computer, it will display the installed memory, and typically the maximum memory that can be installed. However, while these are real values, they represent a potential useable memory. The actual useable memory may be different from these values. The reason is simply that a computer may configured to use shared memory, which reduces the amount of RAM that is available to the CPU by using some of it for other purposes, such as for video memory. In some cases, you can control the maximum useable memory through system settings, and by upgrading to a video card that has internal onboard video memory. But always remember, that the amount of memory that your system reports, is not always the amount of actual installed memory. Click Here for our Memory Options » Click Here for the latest Video Cards » · Memory - Useable Memory How Much Memory Do You Really Have? If you find that you need more memory, we suggest expanding your system memory, since this is the most effective performance increase, and the one that is easiest to perform . Does President Obama practice what he preaches? African Kin Seek Obama’s Help - But President Offers no Special Aid or Access By Farah Stockman, Globe Staff | September 13, 2009 (Photos By Boniface Mwangi for The Boston Globe) President Obama’s relatives put up a sign showing his lineage in the village of Kobama which means “land of Obama,’’ where his great-grandfather is buried. KOGELO, Kenya - After Barack Obama was elected to the US Senate in 2004, a delegation from the remote African village where his father was raised journeyed to Washington, seeking financial help. But Obama offered them advice, not money. Now that Obama has moved to the White House, expectations of financial benefit have grown even greater in this tiny hamlet where water is still delivered to thatched huts on the backs of donkeys. “There are still those who are waiting for him to send millions,’’ said Nicholas Rajula, a Kogelo businessman. Dreams alone seem to be sustaining those counting on an economic boom in this rural corner of western Kenya, near Lake Victoria, where the American president’s father - also named Barack Obama - grew up and where many of his relatives remain. In Kogelo, the village where Barack Sr. was raised, there is no restaurant or post office to speak of. Two hours from the nearest city, it is not on most maps. Still, the price of land here has skyrocketed because of rampant speculation about an Obama family museum that the Kenyan Ministry of Tour ism has promised to build. And there have been some modest, but tangible, signs of progress that seem tied to the village’s new notoriety. Within a week of Obama’s election victory last year, the government began to pave the main road to town. It also brought in an electricity and water lines to Obama’s step-grandmother’s compound. Some relatives have also set up foundations, trying to raise money for development projects using the Obama name. And strangers are suddenly a common sight in the market, attracted by safari companies that advertise heritage tours about the first African-American US president. A tourist hotel is planned. But what is missing is a direct infusion of cash from Obama or the US government, say local residents and members of the extended Obama family, some of whom say they have relayed funding requests through e-mails and letters to Washington. That expectation might come as a surprise in the United States, where such gifts are not an obligation and Obama is not considered a particularly wealthy man. But in Kenya, where politicians are often judged by how much financial help they funnel to family and tribe, the lack of cash donations from the president has caused some consternation. Rajula, the Kogelo businessman who funded the delegation’s trip to Washington in 2005, said Obama encouraged the group - which included his own uncle - to form self-help organizations and apply for funding through official channels, such as USAID. “There is no money that comes from his pocket,’’ Rajula said. A White House official said: “The president’s policy of pointing aid requests to official channels is consistent with his message of good governance’’ in Africa. USAID press officer Harry Edwards said the agency gives no special consideration to Obama’s family members or organizations hailing from his family’s home area. Still, relatives in Kenya believe that Obama’s presidency will bring development, one way or another, so much so that two villages are competing to claim his ancestral roots: Kogelo, the place his father grew up and is buried, and Kobama, a village about 100 miles away where the president’s great-grandfather settled and where the majority of his estimated three hundred relatives remain. In Kobama, which literally means “land of Obama,’’ family members have fixed up his great-grandfather’s grave, erected a signpost outlining his lineage, and gladly receive a steady stream of curious visitors. Now, they too, are angling to put up a museum near the mud house where President Obama slept when he visited as a young man. Charles Oluoch, a second cousin of the president who chairs a new family foundation seeking development funds, said Obama’s Harvard-educated father helped the boys of Kobama with jobs and school fees. “Now we expect the president to take over,’’ he said. But he added that he understands Obama has higher priorities. “This man is USA material and he has to fulfill all his campaign promises,’’ he said. “He should feed his family first - the USA people.’’ Obama was raised by his Kansas-born mother, and only met his Kenyan father once. But he tracked down a sprawling family in Kenya after his father’s 1982 death, while researching his autobiography, Dreams from my Father. In the book, Obama grappled with the idea of Western guilt, questioning how much he could help the huge extended family he was meeting for the first time. “Now I had responsibilities,’’ Obama wrote in 1995. “But what did that mean exactl
